This Ginger Ale Mocktail is a refreshing non-alcoholic drink made with citrus, fresh mint, and sparkling ginger ale. The combination creates a light, bubbly beverage with a flavor reminiscent of a Mojito, making it a perfect summer refreshment for both adults and children.

The flavor is reminiscent of a Mojito, but without the alcohol, making it suitable for the whole family. Unlike many citrus mocktails that rely on a single fruit, this recipe is highly adaptable and works beautifully with grapefruit, oranges, yuzu, or other citrus fruits you may already have on hand. 

Ingredients Overview 

Grapefruit: I used Japanese grapefruit Kawachi Bankan because it's much less bitter than regular grapefruit. Since it can be difficult to find outside Japan, feel free to substitute it with yuzu, orange, pink grapefruit, or your favorite citrus fruit. It is typically in season from April to July.

Mint: To add a refreshing flavor, I added mint to my recipe. I recommend using spare mint not pepper mint, because it has a milder, sweeter flavor that complements this drink. Adding a bunch of mint reminds me of a Mojito cocktail which is actually my favorite. 

Ginger Ale: Last but not least, Ginger ale! Many brands produce ginger ale in Japan, such as Asahi, Canada Dry, and Wilkinson.

Tips to Know Before You Start 

Make sure to muddle the mint gently, as you dont want to over-mash, or it could get bitter. Be careful not to stir too much after you pour the ginger ale, as the sparkling ginger ale will lose its fizz. Its best to prepare a chilled glass, which will enhance the finish, making everything stay cool and crisp. 

Variations & Serving Ideas 

You can substitute Kawachi Banakan with some other citrus fruits. You can also swap the ginger ale for ginger beer, which has a more intense flavor, and if you prefer a stronger, spicier kick to your mocktail, itll be a perfect choice. In that case, be mindful of balancing the flavor; choose the right citrus so the ginger beer doesnt overpower it. 

This mocktail pairs well with a wide variety of dishes because its flavor is light and versatile. The refreshing, crisp notes complement meals like grilled meats, seafood, and fresh vegetables. However, you can also enjoy this mocktail on its own without any paring.
